We all know the story of Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson. But if you don’t, here I am to tell you about them.

They are supposed to be enemies and Xaden is supposed to want to kill Violet for vengeance. They are also supposed not to meet each other, considering that she was grown to enter the Scribe Quadrant. But her mother wants Violet in the Riders Quadrant even if she’s smaller than everyone else and death is a hearthbeat away since the very first day in the Quadrant.

Instead, they meet and start to know each other even if Xaden looks so misterious and everyone tell Violet to stay away from him. Will they be able to stay separate or will they become more than just riders in the same wing?

I let you discover what happens between them. On my hand, I can say that Rebecca Yarros’ writing is emotional and so much involving. She is also able to mix in perfect harmony the the descriptions – necessary to enter in Basgiath War College and Navarre – with the dialogues between the characters – which allow the reader to empathize with them.

The principal characters – Xaden, Violet, Dain, General Sorrengail – are the ones whom the reader is constantly in conctact with and he can love, suffer and hate with them: some will give you hard time until the end of the novel.

One last thing, please be aware to the final cliffhanger you will find at the very end of the book: it will shocks you for days.
In the end, read “Fourth wing” and you won’t regret it.

🐲⚔️“Fascinating. You look all frail and breakable, but you’re really a violent little thing, aren’t you?”

Fourth Wing è da settimane sulla bocca di tutti. Draghi, enemies to lovers, scontri all'ultimo sangue, una scuola dalle politiche decisamente letali e vibes alla Hunger Games.
Insomma le premesse per una lettura ricca di azione, da restare ancorati alle pagine, c'erano tutte e beh…dai ve lo dico subito: sono state più che mantenute!

Ma Fourth Wing è il libro del millennio, dell'anno, del secolo…insomma una roba fuori di testa?
No.
Fourth Wing è un libro perfetto per staccare la spina e catapultarsi in una storia avventurosa?
Oh si.

Questo romance fantasy creato da Rebecca Yarros, primo a quanto pare di una serie lunga cinque volumi, ha parecchi difetti e alcuni più difficili da ignorare di altri.
Una protagonista che è una Mary Sue (anche se fa finta di non esserlo) che va avanti a colpi di fortuna e deus ex machina, scene un po' cringe, trama assolutamente prevedibile, spiegazioni che non sono spiegazioni ma più che altro un "è così perché sì", la tendenza a svicolare dalle situazioni buttandola in caciara…e potrei continuare!

Quindi il bello dove sta?
Fourth Wing ha il pregio di avere un ritmo serrato, con molte scene dinamiche e scontri che tengono sempre viva l'attenzione, tanto da distogliere questa dai difetti più evidenti, trasportando il lettore in una storia coinvolgente ed appassionante.
In breve si resta incuriositi dalle dinamiche di questo mondo, dalla presenza dei draghi e dal lato romance (per chi è più attento a questo aspetto).

Il personaggio di Violet nonostante alcuni difetti offre uno spunto interessante per via della sua disabilità fisica.
La frustrazione, gli altri che continuamente le rinfacciano la sua fragilità (ciao Dain, dico proprio a te), la necessità di presentarsi forte a prescindere…Violet mostra intelligenza, determinazione ma anche molta empatia trovando nuovi modi per sopravvivere e spingendosi comunque oltre i suoi limiti. Ho anche apprezzato molto il suo rapporto con i draghi e anche con Xaden, personaggio che al di là dei soliti cliché, si è rivelato piuttosto intrigante!

Non nego però che avrei preferito qualche dettaglio in più sul worldbuilding, così come avrei preferito che Violet, non avesse una plot armor o, ancor peggio, tratti che la avvicinano pericolosamente a essere un personaggio op... ma che ce frega!

Fourth Wing è stata una lettura divertente, scorrevole e che ha saputo trascinarmi in un turbinio di eventi senza annoiarmi. Nonostante la prevedibilità di alcune svolte di trama e di alcune dinamiche tra i personaggi mi sono sentita coinvolta e ho seguito con gusto la loro storia.
Era il libro che ci voleva in un periodo particolarmente pieno, ha saputo intrattenermi e incuriosirmi, tanto da lasciarmi con più di un dubbio su come andranno le cose nei prossimi libri!

Non è il libro perfetto ma se sapete cosa aspettarvi, Fourth Wing può rivelarsi davvero la lettura perfetta da divorare per staccare la spina!

We absolutely need to talk about this book.

L'accademia militare di Basgiath è la famosissima scuola per diventare cavalieri di draghi più spietata ed elitaria che ci sia. Una volta entrati non si hanno altro che due possibilità: laurearsi o morire. Violet Sorrengail già si immaginava a passare i prossimi anni circondata dai suoi amati libri e immersa nel silenzio della biblioteca. Nulla di più lontano da ciò che le sta per accadere. Quella generalessa di sua madre le ha ordinato di unirsi alle centinaia di candidati disposti a qualunque sacrificio pur di diventare parte dell'élite di Navarra: i cavalieri di draghi. Ma Violet ha solo vent'anni e un corpo ancora poco allenato alla battaglia: la morte per lei potrebbe arrivare in un lampo. I draghi, infatti, non si legano agli umani «fragili», ma li inceneriscono. E la maggior parte degli studenti non si farebbe scrupoli nell'eliminare Violet pur di migliorare le proprie possibilità di successo. Senza contare che tutti gli altri la farebbero fuori volentieri pur di punire la temibile e potente madre, compreso Xaden Riorson, il cavaliere più forte e spietato del Quadrante. Fourth Wing è il primo volume della serie romantasy The Empyrean, composta da ben quattro libri confermati, ipotetici cinque.

Fourth Wing è in assoluto uno dei libri più chiacchierati sul booktok e bookstagram nel 2023. Ma… vale davvero tutto hype ?

Per esperienza personale vi consiglio di prendere questo libro con le pinze in quanto presenta delle imperfezioni.

Pochi dettagli e un worldbuilding quasi inesistente. Vengono spese giusto due parole sulla costruzione del mondo magico.

Ok… ci può anche stare.

Alla fine stiamo parlando di un primo volume di una serie abbastanza lunga, perciò possiamo dire che Fourth Wing sia in realtà un libro introduttivo.
Inoltre, tutto il libro è ambientato in questo quartier generale pensato per formare i futuri ‘’cavalieri di draghi’’ che, non appena avranno terminato il loro addestramento di tre anni circa, combatteranno sul fronte di Navarre.

I personaggi, sia principali sia secondari, sono favolosi. Nessun personaggio nominato in Fourth Wing mi è mai apparso piatto o insignificante (Jack fa eccezione, obv.). La Yarros ci presenta personaggi tridimensionali, dotati di un carattere forte e indipendenti. Personaggi con alle spalle un passato traumatico e dotati di uno scopo e pronti a tutto pur di raggiungerlo.

Fantastici, davvero.
Nonostante le sue mille paranoie, ho amato Violet. La sua determinazione, il suo coraggio, la sua curiosità, il suo animo badass, la sua compassione…
Mi sono ritrovata spesso in lei.

L’ironia di Tairn mi ha letteralmente spezzata mentre la dolcezza di Andarna mi ha sciolto il cuore.

Xaden Riorson nuova book crush.

One second he’s out of reach and the next his mouth is on mine, hot and insistent.

Potrei continuare così all’infinito.

Xaden è… misterioso, arrogante a tratti, affascinante. Magnetico.

Vi risulterà impossibile NON amarlo, credetemi sulla parola.

In linea più generale, ho apprezzato la lettura di Fourth Wing. Le prime 80 pagine le ho trovate particolarmente lente e noiose ma, superate quelle, la storia acquista più ritmo.

E’ un libro che intrattiene tantissimo e, grazie ai piccoli colpi di scena presenti tra un capitolo e l’altro, vi risulterà impossibile staccarvi da questo libro o anche solo pensare di farlo. Il finale l’ho trovato alquanto prevedibile ma mi ha comunque lasciata a bocca aperta.

Il romance è sicuramente il punto forte di questo libro. E credo sia stato soprattutto questo ad avermi tenuta incollata alle pagine.

Intenso. Profondo. Sensuale.
Bello, bello, bello.

Tuttavia, mi sorge un dubbio: l’autrice sostiene che la serie sia un enemies to lovers. Ed effettivamente lo è.

Tuttavia, verso le 150/100 pagine finali i due si avvicinano parecchio.
‘’There’s only you, Violence.’’

Da enemies a lovers in circa 300 pagine, quasi 400.

MA, ricordiamo che Fourth Wing è il primo volume di una serie di ipotetici cinque libri.

Dunque mi verrebbe spontaneo chiederti…

Cosa cabbo succederà ai due piccioncini nei prossimi libri? Cosa bolle in pentola Rebecca?

Dubbi esistenziali a parte, per il romance (almeno per ora) Fourth Wing vale tutto l’hype che il booktok e il bookstagram gli hanno attribuito.
Non la definirei una lettura a cinque stelle in quanto privo di dettagli importanti e aspetti che andavano approfonditi meglio, nonostante ciò si porta a casa quattro stelline piene.

Vi ricordo che l’uscita della traduzione italiana è prevista per il 7 novembre 2023, edito Sperling .

P.S. Consigliatissima la lettura in lingua per chi ha familiarità con l’inglese. Il livello d’inglese NON è semplice. Direi che siamo sul B2 avanzato quasi un C1 in quanto sono presenti delle costruzioni linguistiche tipiche dello ‘’slang americano’’ e che potrebbero confondervi se non avete familiarità con l’inglese.

La trama del libro esta increible, fluye muy rapido todo y jamas te aburre. El romance es bueno, pero lo mas increible son los dragones. Lo super recomiendo, me mantuvo entretenida desde la pagina uno hasta que se acabo!!

Esse livro foi recomendação, e eu amei cada minuto que passei lendo. Ele mistura vários temas de outros livros que já conhecemos, mas a história é muito viciante. Eu fiquei super ansiosa lendo, me peguei brigando com os personagens. A escrita é meio adolescente e me incomoda um pouco a autora usar algumas palavras modernas, pois me tira da ambientação. É uma leitura fácil e leve, li em dois dias, pois estava gripada e não tinha o que fazer. Tirando alguns furos no enredo, eu fiquei meio brava que a protagonista é tida como brilhante e a mais inteligente de todos, mas ela deixa passar umas coisas tão básicas que não faz sentido algum. Por exemplo, logo no início do livro quando eles se conhecem Xaden já dá a entender umas coisas que ela só tem uma epifania laaaaaaa na frente. É frustrante!

Enfim, terminei o segundo livro e agora tô deprimida. Kkkk Fiquei uma hora no Reddit lendo teorias.

i have nothing but good things to say about this book, buckle up.
i’m honestly not even sure that i will be able to gather my thoughts and form a coherent review to adequate explain how much i adored this book but i’m going to try. let’s start by saying that i am obsessed with this book.
this was outstanding and amazing in every single way. i cried, i laughed, i giggled, i gasped, i did ALL THE THINGS. i have not felt so many things while reading a book since my last SJM read. fourth wing absolutely deserves all the hype and more. if the hunger games, divergent, harry potter, and game of thrones had a baby, this would be it.
this book was the perfect mixture of romance and high stakes and the vibes were so spot on. fourth wing is fast paced from beginning to end and will absolutely hook you from the very first chapter. the world building was perfection and so seamless that it never felt awkward and i was never confused about the fantasy world. this is a world i would absolutely love to live in!
i have heard that a lot of people found this book predictable, but i’m personally HORRIBLE at predicting endings so i may have forseen one or two things but i definitely could not have predicted the entire ending for this book and that made it that much more enjoyable.
i LOVED violet’s character so much. her bond with her sister and her friends was so genuine. she is tough and strong willed and is unstoppable, despite her disadvantage (which yarrow displayed SO SO well). i loved her journey and how much she grew throughout this whole book.
XADEN!!!! rhysand has been my #1 book boyfriend since i devoured ACOTAR last year and no one has lived up to the hype since. xaden freaking riorson has officially take my #1 book boyfriend spot with rhysand as a very close second. how can you not love this man?? he is an ABSOLUTE SIMP from violet even from the start despite his grumpy exterior. men who show their love through actions >>>
this man had me literally gasping and giggling like a little kid because of some of the things he did. he was exactly what violet needed. i loved their tension but also how he always believe in her. and the nicknames?? 🤭
the romance was perfection. usually i get really impatient with slow burns, but the fantasy aspect of this book was done SO WELL that i was such as obsessed with the story as i was with the romance. and enemies to lovers??? sign me tf up. 😮‍💨 violet and xaden had the perfect build up between them. and the SPICE?? puh-lease. absolutely amazing!!
tairn and andarna were hands down, the best part of this book. yarros did SO GOOD with described all of the details of the dragons and giving them so much personality. the interactions between the dragons and their riders were so much fun. i loved tairn’s grumpy exterior, his sassy comments, and how protective he was of violet. andarna is so freaking cute and i love her to death.
i could honestly rave about every single aspect of this book but i feel like this really sums up some of my biggest feelings. this is definitely a book that deserved ALL the hype and definitely a book that you need to read, even if you aren’t a fantasy lover.
this book was not perfect by any means. like anything else, this book had flaws but it was perfect to me. i am obsessed. it had everything i wanted from a fantasy book AND DRAGONS!!🐉 i cannot wait to get my hands on iron flame!! this is definitely a book that i will be rereading before book 2 comes out! i know for a fact that this will be the best book that i read for this year.

This book is a beautiful, consuming, addicting fantasy that I wish I could read all over again for the first time! The pacing is absolutely spot on, it includes a slow burn, enemies to lovers angsty romance that sparks right off the page, incredible but easy to follow world building and my absolute favourite trope of found family!

The reader is pulled in to the breathtaking world of a war college for dragon riders, we meet Violet as she is forced to follow in her families footsteps and enter the riders quadrant, instead of becoming a scribe (a scholar). Violet struggles with chronic pain and weak joints, I appreciated the author giving a voice to chronic conditions while demonstrating the Violet's resilience in how she overcame her bodies differences, never treating them as a disability but just as something unique.

One of the greatest strengths of this book lies in its meticulous world-building. The author creates a vivid universe, rich in intricate details that transport readers to a realm where imagination runs wild. Each setting is exquisitely described, effortlessly pulling us into the heart of the story. I could so clearly picture each individual setting in my head, it was such a unique and intriguing fantasy world. And the dragons...I have never been so entranced by fantasy creatures in a book before!

The characters are equally exceptional. Rebecca Yarros masterfully crafts a diverse cast that is not only relatable but also leaves a lasting impression. Their strengths, vulnerabilities, and complex emotions make them feel like genuine individuals, with whom readers can form deep connections. Watching their personal journeys unfold and witnessing their growth is a true pleasure. I also loved the inclusion of LGBTQ+ characters without making them a stereotype or token character placed simply to fill a quota. Sexual and gender identities were mentioned but never hovered on, it was a very small but heartwarming detail.

I very much enjoyed how Violet's journey coming into her true powers was realistic, she wasn't automatically the strongest and best candidate, she had to work harder and smarter than the rest of the riders. Resilience is a central theme in this book. The characters face daunting challenges, both physical and emotional, and the author expertly portrays their perseverance and unwavering determination. Through their struggles, the reader is reminded of the power of the human spirit and the indomitable will to overcome even the most daunting obstacles.

The plot of is an exhilarating rollercoaster ride from start to finish. Action-packed sequences and heart-stopping moments keep readers on the edge of their seats, desperate to uncover what lies around the next corner. Rebecca Yarros skillfully balances intensity with moments of respite, allowing readers to catch their breath before plunging them back into the heart-pounding action. The intricate twists and turns keep the plot engaging, ensuring that boredom never has a chance to set in. And when I say heart-pounding, I truly mean this, as the last action sequence had me so intensely concentrated that my apple watch gave me a warning that my heart rate was rising without any exercise occurring, I was that invested!

This is an outstanding novel that deserves all the praise it has been receiving and more. With its exceptional world-building, well-developed characters, thrilling plot, and theme of resilience, it captivated me from the very beginning. Rebecca Yarros's skillful storytelling transports readers to a realm where imagination knows no bounds, leaving you yearning for more. Prepare to be swept away on a breathtaking journey that will leave you exhilarated and inspired. This is a true fantasy masterpiece!!

Ich liebe Fourth Wing und als ich diese wunderschöne Ausgabe gesehen habe, musste ich sie haben.
Das Buch ist eine 10/10, das Worldbuilding ist gut, aber noch ausbaufähig. Doch die Tension zwischen den Protagonisten ist 🔥.
Für ein englisches Taschenbuch ist die Qualität sehr gut, das Papier ist etwas dünn aber dass ist ja meistens so bei nicht deutschen Büchern.
