Daisy Clayton's killer was never caught. In over ten years, there has been no breakthrough in her murder case.
Detective Renée Ballard has faced everything the LAPD's notorious dusk-till-dawn graveyard shift has thrown at her. But, until tonight, she'd never met Harry Bosch - an ex-homicide detective consumed by this case.
Soon, she too will become obsessed by the murder of Daisy Clayton.
Because Ballard and Bosch both know: every murder tells a story. And Daisy's case file reads like the first chapter in an untold tragedy that is still being written - one that could end with Ballard herself, if she cannot bring the truth to light...

Recensione
This is a must-read detective novel, for this or any year. (Michael Carlson IRRESISTIBLE TARGETS)
Detective Renee Ballard, who made her first appearance in last year's The Late Show, returns here in the company of Connelly's long-standing serial character Harry Bosch, now retired from the LAPD and working on cold cases for the San Fernando Police Department...Connelly keeps all the plates - including the porn industry, corrupt cops and a religious zealot - spinning beautifully as the pair battle to find the truth (Laura Wilson THE GUARDIAN)
Ballard and Bosch could not be more different, and yet they are hewn from the same rock (Mark Sanderson EVENING STANDARD)
A new masterpiece. It's suspenseful and surprisingly moving. After 31 bestsellers he just keeps getting better. This one will fuel ones to come, as it unites veteran LA detective Harry Bosch and his newest creation, fesity detective Renee Ballard...What a team! What a hit! (Alex Gordon PETERBOROUGH EVENING TELEGRAPH)
Brilliant written in Connelly's inimitable descriptive style and compulsively readable, we keep company with his characters in the traffic jams of LA and the endless cheap diners where the cops catch their breakfast after an all-nighter. The intertwining of character is as fascinating as the cases they confront, and we are along breathlessly for the whole ride. We can only hope that the team of Ballard and Bosch will run for some years to come. (Marina Vaizey THE ARTS DESK)
Connelly's most famous creation, retired LAPD detective Harry Bosch,, teams up with detective Renee Ballard to solve the 2009 murder of a 15-year-old runaway in a gripping, fast-paced story. (MAIL ON SUNDAY) --Questo testo si riferisce a un'edizione fuori stampa o non disponibile di questo titolo.

Ballard still work the late shift for Los Angeles Police Department’s Hollywood Division - and is very good at it. Harry Bosch continues to work cold cases for the San Fernando Police Department, but has enough time at his hands to follow a private investigation. He is looking into a more than 9-year-old Cold Case - the abduction and murder of a very young girl working the streets. Her mother is momentary living in Harry's spare-room, recovering for over 6 months now from heavy drug abuse.
This is a real bee hive of criminal activities where our two protagonists meet accidentally - and decide to unite their efforts. They will have to overcome a lot of headwind until the cases they work on will be cleared. And Daisy can rest finally, her killer finally apprehended. And a horrible truth comes to light about the very busy activity of this monster in the last years since the killing of the girl. If only - You may say. Yes, if only the first detectives on that case would have done their work right, how many lost girls and women could still walk - and maybe work the streets of Los Angeles and her suburbs?
Yes, I did like it very much, that cooperation between the very down-to-earth Detective Ballard with her dog Lola and the old and tired Detective Harry Bosch. The first having scars on the inside and the latter damaged knees from the previous book. And I hope that Michael Connelly lets them work together for some years and books. I, for sure will buy them all!
Well .. not as good as others books from the same author. … the Shake cards part is kinda boring …plot less gripping than usual…
This one in my opinion is just ok
