5,0 su 5 stelle It's the SPECTACLE of SUMMERSLAM! LIVE from WEMBLEY STADIUM!

Ah, SummerSlam 1992...unforgettable for several reasons. Taking place on 29th August 1992, it was the only SummerSlam to take place in the United Kingdom. AND it took place at Wembley Stadium, no less! Remembered for having one of the largest attendances for a WWE Event with 80,355 fans, the show had an amazing atmosphere from start-to-finish, culminating in the epic main-event between Bret "Hitman" Hart and the late, great British Bulldog for the Intercontinental Championship.

To coincide with WWE's return to the UK for a major-stadium show with last year's Clash at the Castle, Fremantle and WWE decided to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of SummerSlam 1992 by releasing it on Blu-Ray for the first time. So after 30 years...how well does the show hold-up?

Well, to start with the digital transfer, the show looks absolutely great to behold on Blu-Ray. WWE Home Video and Fremantle have done a fabulous job of remastering the original video footage into HD Format. The entire show and all other footage is displayed in the expected 4:3 format and considering the show was from 1992, WWE and Fremantle have done a fabulous job producing the Blu-Ray. SummerSlam 1992 looks & sounds great to behold!

There are two options to view the pay-per-view. One is the broadcast version which is available on the WWE Network (SummerSlam 1992 was recorded on Saturday 29th August and then broadcast on Pay-Per-View on tape-delay Monday 31st August), and then there's the original live version which features the various dark matches which were taped for Prime Time Wrestling, and ALSO found their way onto the original Silver Vision VHS release (later released on DVD as part of the Tagged Classics line). This choice is a really refreshing aspect about the set, and whilst you can take or leave the dark matches (Jim Duggan & the Bushwhackers vs. The Mountie & The Nasty Boys, Papa Shango vs. Tito Santana and Tatanka vs. The Berserker), it's nevertheless pleasing to finally watch the entire show again after all this time.

Now, I will admit that there's a danger of nostalgia-overload watching SummerSlam 1992 again. There's the overwhelming number of colourful characters and absolute legends (many of whom are sadly no longer here) that reminds you how glorious the WWE was in the 90s. But is the event all that it was cracked up to be?

You COULD argue that SummerSlam 1992 is JUST a two-match show. Bret/Bulldog for the Intercontinental Championship in the main-event is every-bit as glorious as I remember. A five-star-masterpiece that simply makes for the greatest-match-ever in SummerSlam history. 30 years on, it's still the British Bulldog's crowning moment, and another perfect classic from Bret Hart.

The OTHER legendary match from this show is none-other than WWE Champion "Macho Man" Randy Savage defending the title against the Ultimate Warrior. Whilst not quite as good as their legendary bout from WrestleMania 7, this championship showdown from SummerSlam 1992 is another bonafide-epic from Randy and Warrior, made all the more-engaging by the role Mr. Perfect plays. Savage and the Warrior had such insane chemistry with each other, and they produced another essential collision here.

But aside from from THOSE TWO bouts...what else is there? Sadly, there are some real DUDs on the card. Nailz vs. Virgil is absolutely dire. as is Repo Man vs. Crush and unfortunately the Undertaker was saddled with having to wrestle a terrible bout with Kamala. The Tag Title Match between the Natural Disasters and the Beverly Brothers is okay, but could have benefitted from being shorter. Still, none of these matches are too long, and the great London crowd REALLY provided such electricity throughout the night.

Furthermore, there are some forgotten gems on the show, like Legion of Doom versus Money Inc. in a fantastic, heated opener to kick things off. And there's also Rick Martel vs. Shawn Michaels in a rare heel-vs-heel match with the stipulation that neither man can hit each other in the face(!)...all for the affections of Sensational Sherri Martel! It's a bout that sounds so stupid on paper, but thanks to the talents of both Rick and Shawn, they provide a hilariously-entertaining match.

In terms of Special Features, the blu-ray has some nice goodies to indulge in. There's the original Countdown Pre-Show and three episodes of WWE Superstars from August 1992; all of which provided great hype and anticipation for SummerSlam. I would've liked to have seen some of today's WWE Superstars and various Legends to have discussed the impact of SummerSlam 1992 in a new feature. But overall, this is still a great release of this legendary event.

For fans of yesteryear and fans of today, SummerSlam 1992 is absolutely essential! Worth it for Bulldog/Bret and Warrior/Savage alone. But for the amazing atmosphere from Wembley Stadium, some forgotten gems and a great big dollop of 90s nostalgia, you just can't go wrong! An essential purchase for ALL fans after all this time!
