I was a latecomer to this show. Which I regret, because I love this show. I love Malcolm Bright. I hate FOX for canceling the most original series I've seen in YEARS (and I also hate them with the fire of a thousand supernova-ing suns for canceling The Resident, but that's a different thing). I love that I can draw so many parallels between Malcolm and Mike Warren, the protagonist of my favorite show/the equally morally-grey Graceland (USA Network, 2013-2015), which was ALSO canceled unfairly on a cliffhanger after thirtysomething episodes. (If you KNOW Graceland, and you start shipping Mike and Malcolm now that I've said that, that's on you. I can only lead horses to water; if you drink, don't say I didn't warn you.)
I love the writing. I love Tom Payne, who I would follow into hell with minimal regrets. I love Lou Diamond Phillips, whom I wish was my uncle, because he seems like he gives good hugs and always calls on your birthday. I love Michael Sheen, who is magnificent at playing a narcissist lunatic I want to flush down a large toilet. I love everyone in this bar, even though Bellamy Young will literally never look old enough to have a son in his 30s. I don't care. I love her too. Screw time.
I love FINALLY having physical copies of both seasons of this show, since I don't/will never subscribe to MAX, and streaming services can't be trusted to keep anything anymore, anyway, especially underrated things. Mostly, I love that it was cheaper here than it would've been from Barnes & Noble, Best Buy (which was sold out anyway), Target, or anywhere else I looked and can't remember.
It also arrived in much better condition than my DVD of season one, which I ordered from Best Buy because I had a coupon. That one came with cracks in the case (albeit superficial ones, just in the lower corner) and a missing plastic bracket inside (the part that holds the disc sheath in place), which I had to rig with a small rubber band. Would've returned it, but wasn't sure my discounts would carry over, and more importantly the actual discs were fine, so I accepted it being a little damaged, like Malcolm—but the POINT is, this one arrived pristine. Ten points for the super-mega-corporation that ate all the other corporations.
Buy this show because it's excellent, and also: PLEASE buy physical formats of all your favorite shows in general. Don't let David Zaslav decide what you can and can't watch. Let the boring old rich guys know that there IS money to be made by producing physical copies of series, so people can escape the mercy of streaming giants that "disappear" great shows at will for tax write-offs. Maybe THEN we might MAYBE see a rise in availability (I'm still angry that they're withholding half of The Resident and the final season of This Is Us from being released on disk, but that's a different thing, too).
