After noticing the polarized reviews for this item, I was prompted to respond. Personally, I feel this set contains definitive versions of the first six ZZ Top albums. That said, perhaps there are at least two reasons for the disparate positions concerning this CD set. First, the music is remixed, and for folks who prefer the 'original' recordings to be left alone, this would obviously present problems. In my opinion, the remixing is masterfully done, and results in a refreshing improvement over the original recordings. The increases in depth and breadth as a result of both the remastering and remixing is very evident to me. Second, one's assessment of this item might also be a function of the equipment being used for playback. I have a decent system (Yamaha amplification with Martin Logan electrostatics), and this set sounds phenomenal in my environment. In closing, I have both the original and the remixed editions of the first six ZZ Top albums, and thoroughly enjoy listening to both of them.......I appreciate the fact that each version offers a unique and interesting perspective and listening experience.

ZZ Top　The　Complete Studio Albums 1970-1990 が話題の中、合わせて,このCDも購入した。
何故かというと、上記セットのうち、何枚かははオリジナル・ミックスでの発売・・・・という点が気になったから。
単品で揃えると、面倒なのでこの６枚セット(といっても一枚のディスクにLP二枚分が収録されているので実際は三枚組)。
このセットは、

1 ZZ Top's Firtht Album
2 Rio Grande Mud
3 Tres Hombres
4 Fandango!
5 Tejas
6 El Loco

で、この二組のセットを聞き比べると、私見だが、上記の１から５までがリミックス(リマスターではない！)されている。
ドラムのタイトな響き具合、ギターの高音部分の強調、ステレオ感の充実と、まるで違っている。一部の曲は演奏時間も変わっているらしい。
要するに、Eliminator以降のファンが聞いても違和感がないようになっているのだ。
なるほど、従来のファンが初期のＣＤ化の際に「音が違う」と言っている理由が判明した。
こちらのセットが発売された時期は「Eliminator」以降だと思われるので、発売元の会社が「古い音だと売れないかな」と、当時の流行のサウンドに改変して売り出したのだろうと思う。
それが売り上げにどのように貢献したのかは不明だが、従来のファンとアーティスト側の意見は芳しくなかったのだろう。で2013年の「ZZ Top　The　Complete Studio Albums 1970-1990」では元のミックスに戻しての発売、となったのかな。個人的に興味深かったのは、上記の４はライヴとスタジオの曲で構成されているのだが、何故かライヴの方はあまり手を加えていないように感じられたこと・・・ここは手抜きか？。
自分はEliminator以降のリスナーではあるが、このセットの一枚目を聞き始めて思わず噴出しそうになった。「70年代のサウンドでは絶対にないよなあ・・・」
ひとつの作品に対して、二種類のバージョンがこれほど存在しているのは、とても珍しいのではなかろうか。
それをまとめて聴けるこのセットはお買い得だと思う。
また、こちらのセットはケース入りで、しっかりとしたクレジット、写真、ライナーノーツ(当然英語だが)の記載されたブックレットも付いているのでチープ感は、まったく無い。ZZ Top　The　Complete Studio Albums 1970-1990、の方は箱入りではあるものの、CD自体が薄い紙ジャケに直接入れてあるというもの・・・。
なかなか「大人の事情」が垣間見える二つのセットだと思う。
まあ、聴く方としては好きなバージョンを選ぶのもいいのかな・・・・。
あと、上記の3と4にはそれぞれに、ライヴ3曲のボーナス・トラックのくっついたリマスター盤もあったりする(ここで取り上げた二種類のセットには未収録・・・あくまでも、オマケ程度なのだけれど)。で、更に付け加えると、そのリマスター盤二枚のセットもあったりする(ただし、セット盤の方はジャケットが紙一枚の簡易なシロモノなので注意)
ああ、ややこしい・・・・。

This is a 3cd 6album box. Theres 2 albums on each cd. Its the 1st 6 albums released by ZZTOP. The albums are, FIRST ALBUM, RIO GRAND MUD, TRES HOMBRES, FANDANGO, TEJAS, EL LOCO. The best album and the album that made them stars in the USA is TRES HOMBRES. My least fave is EL LOCO but that ain,t too shabby. If you have got into BLACK STONE CHERRY or BLACKBERRY SMOKE then ZZTOP are the daddies of SUVERN ROCK along with LYNYRD SKYNYRD. This 3cd 6album box cost me about £6 which is gr8. Buy it while it goes for good and before it goes for silly money.
